The U.S. Postal Service will commemorate the issuance of a new Priority Mail stamp depicting Hilo’s Liliuokalani Gardens. The dedication is at 11 a.m. Monday at the Shoroan Tea House at Liliuokalani Gardens. This is the first USPS stamp ever to depict a Hilo locale.

The public is invited. Those in attendance will be able to purchase the Liliuokalani Gardens stamps and have them hand canceled for free. Sales and cancellations will be provided from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The stamp is the latest in the Postal Service’s American Landmarks series. Art director Greg Breeding designed the stamp with original art by Dan Cosgrove, based on a photo shot by Keaau resident Bill Eger.

The stamp will be available for purchase on Jan. 23 at post offices nationwide, online at USPS.com and by phone at 782-6724.
